The Davis County Fine Arts Council was formed in 1977, and the Iowa Theater building was purchased at that time with money that was borrowed and paid back through donations. In 1993, a new roof was installed; in 1994, the exterior was tuck-pointed and water-proofed; in 1995, the interior was renovated; in 1998, new theater seats were purchased; in 1999, we received the building just south of the Iowa Theater as a donation and spent $35,000 to get it renovated; in 2003, we bought a new movie projector and surround sound speakers; and in 2007, we bought a new sound system for use on stage. In all, we’ve spent more than $260,000 on the facilities since our inception, most of which was obtained through public donations. Our subsidiary group, the Davis County Players, present a musical every Autumn and a drama or comedy in the spring. Another subsidiary group, Spectrum Center for the Arts, sponsors and provides educational opportunities in the form of musical ensembles and workshops covering a broad spectrum of the arts, including but not limited to, a youth chorale, community choir, dance and mime workshops, and art shows. We operate the Iowa Theater which provides weekend movies using all volunteer help.
